Planning
How to Plan a Month of Instagram Content for a Small Brand
Most small brands post in bursts. A busy week produces five posts, then the account goes quiet for ten days. The fix is rarely more creativity. It is a plan that removes the daily question of what to post. Here is a simple four-week system that works for a café, a clinic, a boutique or a service business.
1. Start with one goal for the month
Pick a single goal: more awareness, more enquiries, or more sales of one product. Every post should help that goal in some way. A month with one goal is easier to plan and easier to judge at the end than a month with five.
2. Choose three content pillars
Pillars are the recurring topics your account is known for. Three is enough to keep the feed varied without becoming confusing. For example:
- A café: behind the scenes, how a drink is made, customer moments.
- A local service: practical tips, results and examples, the team.
- A product brand: the product in use, how it is made, answers to common questions.
When you are out of ideas, you do not start from a blank page. You pick a pillar and ask what your audience still does not know about it.
3. Set a weekly rhythm you can keep
Choose a rhythm that fits your real capacity, then protect it. A realistic starting point is:
- Two Reels per week
- One carousel or image post per week
- Three to five Stories per week
Consistency matters more than volume. It is better to post three times a week for twelve weeks than daily for two weeks and then disappear.
4. Map the month on one page
Write four weeks across and the days you post down the side. Put a pillar in every slot so no week is all one topic. Then add the dates that matter to your audience: product launches, sales, and local occasions. In the UAE that often means Ramadan and Eid, UAE National Day on 2 December, the White Friday sales in November and the winter shopping season. Start preparing content for these three to four weeks ahead, because the best slots fill up fast.
5. Batch the work
Doing one task at a time is faster than switching between tasks every day. Try this order:
- Write all captions and on-screen text in one sitting.
- Film or photograph several posts in one session, with the same lighting and outfit or setup.
- Edit and design covers together so the feed looks like one brand.
- Schedule everything using Instagram's scheduling tools or a scheduling app.
6. Review at the end of the month
Open your insights and look at what people saved, shared and watched to the end, not only at likes. Saves and shares usually show that a post was useful. Ask which pillar and which format did best, keep what repeated, and drop what never worked. Then start the next month with that knowledge.
A quick checklist
- One goal for the month
- Three content pillars
- A weekly rhythm you can keep
- A one-page calendar with key dates
- Content made in batches
- A review at the end of the month
Planning does not make content less creative. It gives your ideas a place to land every week.
